According to spong.com only six titles will make it for the Wii launch. The list of games follows.

1.     Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

2.     Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

3.     Red Steel

4.     Wii Dragon Quest

5.     Super Monkey Ball

6.     Rayman Raving Rabbids

Spong.com claims to have obtained this information from the latest Nintendo Power, however, I don’t believe it is true. It’s doubtful that any plans for launch games have been finalized by Nintendo. Also, the games to be released in the launch window are not specified. It seems that spong.com is using the word “launch” in its literal meaning, as in day one. However, console manufacturers rarely talk about day one – they talk about the launch window. That said, I’m sure that the latest Nintendo Power does have some kind of “expected launch games” article with the above list – followed by some kind of disclaimer.

One notable omission in the list is Super Mario Galaxy. I actually believe that Super Mario Galaxy will not be a launch title. It would be tough to imagine a new Zelda game and a new Super Mario game releasing side by side. I’d expect Nintendo to hold back Super Mario Galaxy for a few months and allow Zelda to shine. Spong.com did say, however, that Super Mario Galaxy is set for an early 2007 release.
